We gather annually at the 4-H Memorial Camp on the grounds of the Allerton Park and Retreat Center which is operated under the guidance of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. The camp is located about 5 miles southwest of Monticello, Illinois. Centrally located between Chicago (160 miles to the north), St. Louis (170 miles to the southwest), and Indianapolis (150 miles to the east), the camp can be reached by several convenient routes.
From the north or northwest, while traveling through Bloomington on I-74 East, take exit 135 to US 51 south to Clinton. From Clinton, head east for about 15 miles on Route 10 to the intersection with Route 48 just north of Weldon. Turn right (south) on Route 48 and travel about 8 miles to the first road south of the I-74 overpass, and head east toward Cisco. Follow this road as it curves to the north around the town, and continue for almost another 6 miles until reaching the sign for the University of Illinois – Allerton Park. Turn right at the sign. Less than one mile ahead is the T-intersection with County Farm Road. Turn right and then proceed to the park entrance which is on the left. Once inside the park, follow the main road to the sign for the 4-H Memorial Camp. Turn right into the camp.
From the west, while traveling on I-72 East from Springfield/Decatur, take exit 156 onto Route 48. Turn right (south) and travel less than one-half mile to Old Route 47; then turn left heading toward Cisco. Follow this road as it curves to the north around the town, and continue for almost another 6 miles until reaching the sign for the University of Illinois – Allerton Park. Turn right at the sign. Less than one mile ahead is the T-intersection with County Farm Road. Turn right and then proceed to the park entrance which is on the left. Once inside the park, follow the main road to the sign for the 4-H Memorial Camp. Turn right into the camp.
From the northeast, while traveling on I-57 South from Kankakee, take exit 235B toward Decatur on I-72 West. After traveling 17 miles on I-72, take exit 164 (Bridge Street) and turn left toward Monticello. At the 4-way intersection (less than one-half mile), turn right onto Old Route 47, and proceed west for about 2 miles until reaching the University of Illinois – Allerton Park sign. Turn left at the sign. Less than one mile ahead is the T-intersection with County Farm Road. Turn right and then proceed to the park entrance which is on the left. Once inside the park, follow the main road to the sign for the 4-H Memorial Camp. Turn right into the camp.
From the east, while traveling on I-74 West through Champaign-Urbana, take exit 179A onto I-57 South toward Memphis/Decatur. In about 2 miles take exit 235B from I-57 onto I-72 West toward Decatur. After about 17 miles take exit 164 (Bridge Street) and turn left toward Monticello. At the 4-way intersection (less than one-half mile), turn right onto Old Route 47, and proceed west for about 2 miles until reaching the University of Illinois – Allerton Park sign. Turn left at the sign. Less than one mile ahead is the T-intersection with County Farm Road. Turn right and then proceed to the park entrance which is on the left. Once inside the park, follow the main road to the sign for the 4-H Memorial Camp. Turn right into the camp.
From the south, while traveling on I-57 North from Effingham, take exit 229 and turn left toward Monticello, about 15 miles to the west. Upon entering town, you will be on Washington Street; continue past the courthouse and turn right at the stop sign for Market Street (Route 105). Proceed north to the stoplight at Bridge Street, and turn left. While traveling on Bridge Street, immediately after crossing the bridge, turn left onto County Farm Road. Proceed west on County Farm for about 3 miles until reaching the University of Illinois – Allerton Park sign. Turn left into the park. Once inside the park, follow the main road to the sign for the 4-H Memorial Camp. Turn right into the camp.
NOTE: Although certain facilities within the park are accessible from the south entrance off Allerton Road, the 4-H Memorial Camp is not among them
